CEMS-SVC-Thumb

CEMS Update: Meet our 6th grade SVC members! Today, our 4th-6th grade SVC members held their first meeting (with donuts) to discuss how to continue to be impactful leaders for our building!

SVC stands for student volunteer corps; they are hired by their teachers for being outstanding leaders within the building. These students then help support the classroom and building throughout the day with responsibilities and opportunities for leadership! A special thank you to our SVC for the impact they have in our building!

October 23rd – 31st is Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week inspires our kids to be drug free, to be happy, to be brave.

Every year, schools across the nation dedicate a week to promote drug prevention and awareness: Red Ribbon Week (RRW). RRW is filled with positive activities focusing on educating our youth about the dangers of drug usage and abuse. CEMS will be hosting theme days making participation fun and engaging for students while promoting a consistent anti-drug message. Please review the flyer that lists the days and themes. Teachers also have resources that they may use in their individual classroom.

How Parents Can Get Involved:
- Participate in Theme Days: Assist your child with theme days, ensure your child dresses accordingly. It’s a simple way to show support and keep the conversation going at home.
- Open Dialogue: Use this week as an opportunity to initiate or continue conversations about drugs with your children. Ask them what they’ve learned and share your perspective.
- Reinforce the Message at Home: Display your child's Red Ribbon Week projects prominently at home. Share the importance of the week on social media or with friends and neighbors.
- Educate Yourself: To answer any questions your child might have, stay informed about the latest drug trends and prevention methods. https://www.redribbon.org/

In conclusion, Red Ribbon Week is not just a school event but a community-wide initiative. By understanding the activities and actively participating, parents can play a vital role in reinforcing the anti-drug message, ensuring that children grow up in environments that foster informed decision-making and healthy lifestyles.

CEMS Update: In Mrs. Kolidakis's 4th Grade class, after reading the book The Worry Stone, students made their own worry or focus stones. They chose 2 colors of polymer clay to create a marble effect, rolled their clay into a ball and then made and indentation for their thumb. They were baked and returned to students for their own use as needed!
